Albion Row Studios

About Us

Albion Row Studio is a shared studio space for 14 artists in Byker, Newcastle Upon Tyne. We are an artist led organisation operating as an Unincorporated Association. The project is headed by Hannah Christy, Sabina Sallis and Maya Wallis.

The project was initiated as a response to multiple Studio closures across the city and as a desire to experiment with modes for sustainable practice and community building.

Albion Row Studio now provides vital work-spaces for 14 Artists. We provide people with space to do their work, to develop their practice, socialise, and share a diversity of perspectives, and ideas across artistic disciplines.

The project is run with a collective responsibility between members. We are keen to experiment with our organisational structure by creating and sustaining co-operative governing principles of honesty, transparency, care, democracy and equality. We are committed to supporting creative and experimental modes of artistic autonomy and production; where artists are able to practice and thrive outside centralised models and mainstream institutions

We believe that offering affordable, long term work-spaces and immediate community is the most radical and necessary thing we can do now to face an uncertain future.
